Mr. Byabakama Michael

The President, National Association of Social Workers of Uganda (NASWU)

Byamukama Michael Ntanda is a Social Worker by profession, a Global development specialist, social protection and social services workforce advocate with more than 20 years’ experience.  He is presently a Regional Psychosocial Support Initiative (REPSSI) Uganda Country Director. He is presently the President of the National Association of Social Workers of Uganda and a member of the Global Social Service Workforce Alliance Steering Committee. Michael has participated and led the implementation of several Mental Health psychosocial support programs in Uganda and beyond. He has reviewed and contributed to development of global, regional, and national policy documents and frameworks. He was part of the core team that developed and reviewed national para social worker training curriculum, psychosocial and child safeguarding curricula. He was part of the National Council for Higher Education Steering Committee that developed the minimum standards for training and education of social workers in Uganda. He has worked closely with and engaged CSOs, government and academic institutions in strengthening of the social work profession. He is a transformative leader and practitioner with progressive management experience with both international and regional organizations.
